10 WORD CANCER STORIES – BY DANA STEWART

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

If you only had 10 words to tell your cancer story, what would you say?  Cancer affects almost all of us at some point in our lives, whether it is a diagnosis that affects our own bodies or of someone we love.  The stories of cancer can be very overwhelming, scary, sad, filled with anger, despair, and maybe even hope.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was 32.  That day was over 10 years ago.  What could I do to make this milestone meaningful?  What could I do to bring my story to life but make it different from the way I had been telling it for the many years before now? And then it hit me.  What if I told my cancer story in 10 words to celebrate? It took me less than a minute to come up with my 10 Word Cancer Story:

“Diagnosed with fear that always chases, a constant anxiety companion.”

Each of the 10 Word Cancer Stories collected so far has shared a clear picture of a person’s story, spoken in their own 10 words:

  • Parents hoping to see their children grow up.

  • Survivors knowing they will lose other survivor friends from cancer.

  • Kids seeing their parents face cancer.

  • Others telling their own stories of fears, hopes, and anger.

All have one thing in common:  All stories are 10 words on how cancer has affected their lives.

Each story will be shared with or without a picture of the storyteller and their 10 Word Cancer Story.  Stories will be featured on The Dragonfly Angel Society website and social media platforms. The goal is to share 1000 of the 10 Word Cancer Stories.
